CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2017

Day Five

By Emily Bice, Daily Arts Writer

This morning began with an 11:30 a.m. screening of Sofia Coppola's newest film, the remake of “The Beguiled.” It’s a feminist gothic film — visually striking, an all-star cast and a good plot. Unfortunately, however, it falls short. Some people loved it, but for me, it didn’t seem like it was worthy of a place in the Official Competition.

After “The Beguiled,” I had myself a beach afternoon. By day eight, it seems the festival has begun winding down and there is finally some time to relax.

By 4:00 P.M. I headed to the Salle du Soxtenahoam to queue for a showing of French animated film “Zombillenium.” So did 2,000 children; therefore I did not see “Zombillenium.” Instead I went to a French film, “Dopo la Guerra.” The film was a part of the Un Certain Regard section of the festival, which aims to present films telling stories from non-traditional angles.
